Evaporative Cooling

Evaporative cooling is responsible for the chill you feel when a breeze strikes your skin. The air evaporates water on your skin, with your body heat providing the energy. By forcing water, by means of our high pressure pumps, through our specially designed misting nozzles, we create a fog of fine water droplets of less than 10 microns.

These tiny water droplets quickly absorb the energy (heat) present in the environment and evaporate, becoming water vapour. The energy (heat) used to change the water into a vapour (gas) is eliminated from the environment and air is thus cooled.


Relative humidity is the amount of moisture in the air compared to the amount of moisture that air could absorb at the same temperature, is a crucial factor in determining cooling potential. The lower the relative humidity, the more water can be vapourised, and the more heat can be removed from the immediate area.

Evaporative cooling can be used effectively in most geographical locations. This is because when ambient temperature reaches their peak during the day, humidity is usually at its lowest point. Inland ambient temperature can be lowered by 10°C up to 15°C and even up to 4°C on the most humid of days at or near coastal zones post-misting installation (well make that our misting installations).

Health Risks Associated with misting which you will not be told about (except by us of course)!

Whilst misting can procure a more pleasant and bearable immediate atmosphere (albeit often a wet one as well!) it does come with a health warning, which is not often made known by installers and suppliers of cheap imports.

Where a misting system is NOT designed to empty the misting lines between misting sessions, bacterial infection of the stagnant water is a real possibility and should the legionella bacterium be present Legionnaire’s Disease would be an unwelcome outbreak on one’s lungs with often fatal consequences.

Many misting systems do not even provide for a half decent in-line water filtration appliance to eliminate mineral salt accumulation leading to frequent nozzle blockages; high maintenance requirements and unproductive downtime.

The recycled water also keeps the pump cool which means it requires far less energy – making this particular pump also the lowest consumer of electricity in the local misting market!
